About

Hello, I’m Youyang.

Artist, filmmaker, educator & community organiser.

Born in China and educated in the UK, I work across animation, drawing, installation and participatory practice. I am interested in how inner experiences become visible, how we inhabit time, and how belonging grows between people.

Youyang Yu, artist, filmmaker and educator.

Art, education and the spaces between us.

I received my Master’s degree in Animation from the Royal College of Art in London. My films have screened internationally and have been collected by the British Film Institute and the Li Xianting Film Fund.

Alongside making films, I teach, curate and organise. I co-founded Feinaki Beijing Animation Week in 2019. More recently, my work has included community cultural coordination at CYC in Dali and the development of Wilder Mountain Dojo.

My practice carries experiences of living across China, the UK and the United States. Animation, objects, writing and shared encounters each offer a way to explore time, identity and belonging.

Current practice: Wilder Mountain Dojo

Wilder Mountain Dojo is a participatory public art practice and an evolving world of shared practice and play. Through stories, body awareness, drawing and co-created cards, we make room for rest, expression and mutual support.
